Cognitive Strategies Bookmark

  • Bookmarks provide a quick and easy-to-use format for reading responses.  Each strategy is listed with student-friendly sentence starters to help students record their thoughts while reading.
  • The bookmark has reminders for students to set expectations on how to fill out the boxes and starts with a place to set a goal before beginning.  It also has a spot to TAG the text (title, author, genre) and note the page.
  • The bookmarks can be printed double-sided, providing 8 spots for entries.  The bookmarks are a tri-fold design, making it easy for students to keep in books and turn in without having to turn in their whole notebook.

Cognitive Strategy Reading Response

These are a digital version of the bookmark, made with Google Slides.  Each slide allows for a new entry and because it is digital, it has several advantages:
  • Can be changed/revised easily (I’ve changed them based on the needs of my students and what specific strategies they need more help with)
  • Pushed-out to students and turned in via Google Classroom (saves paper and can be accessed at any time with a device- no physical collection needed)
  • Teacher can provide feedback at any time on the document, allowing for revision throughout the response-process (I’ve given students feedback before they turn in the assignment, giving them time to revise before finishing)
  • Multiple versions can be used, providing scaffolding for different levels of students (slides with prompts and without)
